February Focus: Teen Relationship Safety & Awareness

One in three teens will experience dating abuse before adulthood. This year’s theme, Real Love Respects, highlights the importance of respect, boundaries, and healthy relationships—empowering teens to recognize harmful patterns early and expect more from love.

We encourage everyone to get involved and help raise awareness. We recognize the power that each one of us has in making a difference. You can host an event at your school, talk to your friends about dating violence, or help make sure others know about Love Is Respect! These action guides from Love Is Respect also have other great ideas to try!

Our Purpose in Action

Creating Stability, Safety, and Forward Momentum

Family Crisis Shelter exists to ensure that survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Northwest North Dakota have immediate access to safety and long-term pathways toward independence. Our mission is not only to respond to crisis, but to help individuals and families rebuild with confidence and support.

1

Immediate Protection in a Confidential Setting

When abuse escalates, safety must come first. We coordinate access to a secure, undisclosed shelter location where adults and children can step out of danger and into a protected environment. The focus is stability — a place where basic needs are met and the first steps toward recovery can begin.

2

Support for Long-Term Housing Stability

Leaving an abusive situation often means starting over. Our advocates assist survivors in locating safe housing, navigating applications, understanding lease agreements, and preparing for independent living. The goal is more than relocation — it is sustainable, secure housing that reduces the risk of returning to unsafe circumstances.

3

Removing Barriers to Essential Services

Access to transportation can determine whether someone reaches court, medical care, employment interviews, or counseling appointments. We help eliminate that barrier by coordinating transportation support so survivors can maintain progress, meet legal obligations, and move toward economic stability.

Donating Essential Items

Daily necessities can quickly run low in a confidential shelter environment. Donating high-need items helps ensure families arriving in crisis have access to clean clothing, hygiene products, household supplies, and basic comforts without delay.

Contribute Financially to Survivor Services

Monetary donations help fund: 24/7 crisis hotline operations, emergency shelter access, and safety planning and legal advocacy. One-time gifts, recurring monthly contributions, and event sponsorships all play a vital role in sustaining domestic violence services in our region.
